Frédéric Genta (born 28 March 1981) is a Monégasque government official. Since March 2018 he is the Country Chief Digital Officer of the Principality of Monaco.[1]

Education and career[]

This graduate of ESCP Business School, who also holds an MBA from Harvard, has pursued a career with a clear focus on the economy and digital technology. Following spells in corporate banking with Lehman Brothers and Société Générale, Frédéric Genta was involved in the digital transformation of Orange France from 2005, and in modernising operations and marketing for Orange in Slovakia, Moldova and Poland. He then joined Amazon France, where he managed the launch and development of the sports and apparel categories, with a broad set of responsibilities encompassing marketing, sales, logistics and purchasing. In 2013, he was recruited by Google as Head of Retail for France. In this role, he supported major French retail brands (such as Fnac, Redoute and Darty) in their digital transformations. Through the deployment of e-commerce, multichannel retailing and the digitalisation of points of sale, as well as the development of new markets and products, Frédéric Genta helped to create new growth opportunities for retailers in partnership with Google. On the strength of this experience, he was summoned to the group’s US headquarters in 2017 to set up a strategic partnership between Walmart and Google, enabling the retail giant to complete a rapid digital transformation using Google platforms.

In March 2018, Prince Albert II, seeking to accelerate Monaco’s transformation, created new powers and appointed Frédéric Genta to his Government, with responsibility for adapting the Monegasque model to a world undergoing profound change, largely due to the digital revolution, and ensuring that the model remains sustainable. With a role that cuts across ministries, he is also charged with promoting reforms intended to improve the country’s economic model and its attractiveness, and with modernising the machinery of government.

In April 2019, Prince Albert II launched the Extended Monaco programme, the goal of which is to create and implement the Monegasque model for a digital world. As part of this programme, Frédéric Genta is engaged in a major effort to build and improve the country’s digital infrastructure, with a focus on both sovereignty and performance. In 2019, Monaco became the first country in the world to roll out 5G. All businesses have access to monthly training sessions delivered by the big tech companies (Amazon, Google, Facebook, etc.), a certification platform for online training, a tool that allows them to assess their digital maturity, and co-funding from the state to cover up to 70% of the cost of any digital transformation project. Frédéric Genta is helping to develop Monaco’s start-up ecosystem via the incubator Monaco Tech and academic partnerships such as the Real Estate Tech chair with ESCP and 5G innovations with EURECOM. More broadly, funding responsible innovation has become a key issue thanks to the establishment of a “virtual stock exchange” that makes use of blockchain, in partnership with Euronext. This structure has already enabled IceBreaker, Luc Jacquet’s production company, to set up and obtain funding in the Principality. Significant fundraising initiatives, which will create value and jobs in Monaco, are currently being finalised and will help to accelerate the development of a digital economy in the Principality.

Frédéric Genta is the son of Gérald Genta and Evelyne Genta.[2] He is married with one child.
