François Drogou (born 30 December 1904 in Bohars, Finistère Department - died 15 December 1940 in the Gulf of Gabès, Tunisia) was an officer of the French Navy.[1] Drogou graduated from the École navale in 1925. A specialist in submarine warfare, he commanded the French submarine Orion from August 1937 to July 1939.[2] Drogou took command of the submarine Narval in February 1940.[2] After the Armistice of 22 June 1940, Drogou refused to surrender his vessel and sailed to Malta to join the Free French Naval Forces. On 15 December 1940, on its third patrol in the Mediterranean, the Narval struck a mine near the Kerkennah Islands and was destroyed.[2] In January 1941, Charles de Gaulle posthumously raised Drogou's rank to Frigate Captain.[3]
