Free Imperial City of Nordhausen

Free Imperial City of Nordhausen was a free imperial city in the Holy Roman Empire which existed between 1253 and 1803, when it was incorporated into Prussia. The city-state was located around the modern city of Nordhausen, Thuringia in central Germany and embraced the Protestant Reformation in 1522.^[1] It was relatively prosperous and known for its production of Echter Nordhäuser Doppelkorn, an alcoholic drink.^[2]
