Gabriel Dyck (born July 21, 1999) is a Canadian curler from Edmonton, Alberta. He is currently the lead of the Alberta Golden Bears men's curling team[1] in university curling and on the World Curling Tour. Dyck will represent Canada at the 2021 World Junior Curling Championships in Beijing, China.

Curling career[]

Dyck won two provincial U18 championships, in 2016 and 2018. Dyck played second along with Ryan Jacques, Zachary Pawliuk, and Michael Henricks at the 2016 U18 International Curling Championships. The team finished with a 3-2 record in pool play, missing the playoff tier. Dyck represented Alberta at the 2018 Canadian U18 Curling Championships along with Dustin Mikush, Jacques, and Henricks. Finishing pool play with a 3-2 record, the team won the A qualifier, earning a spot in the playoff semifinal. Team Alberta earned a spot in the final by defeating the defending U18 national champion, Northern Ontario's Jacob Horgan, where the team lost to Graeme Weagle from Nova Scotia 10-6 in the gold medal game.[2] Dyck received the Fair Play Award at the Canadian Under 18 Curling Championship in 2018 as voted on by the event officials.[3]

As a junior curler, Dyck has represented Alberta in 2019 and 2020 playing lead. Dyck, along with Desmond Young, Mikush, and Jacob Libbus, posted a 5-5 record at the 2019 Canadian Junior Curling Championships, finishing 5th overall.[4] Dyck would return to the 2020 Canadian Junior Curling Championships along with Jacques, Young, and Andrew Gittis, where they posted a 6-4 record, finishing 4th overall.[5]

Finishing 4th at the 2020 Canadian Juniors, Dyck and teammates Jacques and Young were selected to represent Canada at the 2021 World Junior Curling Championships, alongside Newfoundland players Ryan McNeil Lamswood and .[6]

Dyck has been playing on the World Curling Tour since 2017. He lost the final of the 2018 Black Diamond / High River Cash to Thomas Usselman[7] and lost the final of the 2019 Avonair Cash Spiel to Jeremy Harty.[8]
