Ghanaur is a town and a Nagar Panchayat in Patiala district in the state of Punjab, India Pin Code 140702. And it is Sub-Tehsil of Rajpura Tehsil with powers of Joint Magistrate (Niab Tehsildar). It is also a Assembly Constituency in Punjab Vidhan Sabha as Ghanaur-113. Mr. Madan Lal is sitting MLA of AC Ghanaur 113. There are 11 divisions known as wards viz., Ward 1 to Ward 11. Mr Narpinder Singh is the sitting president of Nagar Panchayat Ghanaur. There is a Constituent College of Punjabi University Patiala, known as University College Ghanaur.

As of 2001 India census,[2] Ghanaur had a population of 5754. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Ghanaur has an average literacy rate of 64%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 68%, and female literacy is 60%. In Ghanaur, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age. The Ghagar river flows near ghanaur. Narvana branch canal also touches the south side of town.
