The Grand Genève (Greater Geneva in English) is an transborder agglomeration of 209 communes, comprising the metropolitan area of Geneva. It is divided between Switzerland (the city and canton of Geneva and district of Nyon) and France (parts of Haute-Savoie and Ain) .[1] It has 946,000 inhabitants (2015).[2][3]
Transportation[]
The region is served by many forms of public transport, including the Transports Publics Genevois network within the Canton of Geneva, the Léman Express commuter rail system, and the Compagnie Générale de Navigation sur le lac Léman boat network.
Communes included in the agglomeration[]
The transborder agglomeration originally comprised 212 French communes and Swiss municipalities. The communes located in France have formed their own intercommunal structures,[4] such as:

- Communauté d'agglomération Annemasse Agglo
- Communauté de communes Arve et Salève
- Communauté de communes du Bas Chablais
- Communauté de communes des Collines du Léman

- Communauté de communes du Pays Rochois
- Ville de Thonon-les-Bains
