Corporal Gursewak Singh, SC (?–2016) was a commando in the Indian Air Force. He served in the Garud Squadron. He was killed in action during the 2016 Pathankot attack.[1][2] He was posthumously given the Shaurya Chakra for meritorious action and extraordinary sacrifices in 2017 by the President of India.[3][4][5]

Early life and career[]

Gursewak was born in Ambala and raised there.[6][7] Sucha Singh, his father, is a retired army person.[8] His brother, Hardeep Singh, is also a member of the Indian Army.[9] After earning a Bachelor of Arts from a Bangalore college, he passed the Indian Air Force Entrance Examination on the first try in 2010.[10] He then volunteered to join the IAF's Garud commando force, an elite force trained to deal with difficult situations.[11]

Personal life[]

On November 18, 2015, he married Jaspreet Singh from Haryana.[12]
