Gurtam (Belarusian “гуртам” — together) is a developer and provider of software for GPS monitoring, vehicle telematics and fleet management.[1]

As of September 2021, Wialon, the GPS tracking system developed by Gurtam, monitors more than 3 000 000 assets worldwide. The company's business network involves over 2,200 fleet management service providers in more than 130 countries.[2] According to the report of Berg Insight research agency, Wialon is the leading GPS monitoring system in CIS, occupying about 40% of the CIS commercial carrier market.[3]

  • Wialon — the ultimate platform for GPS tracking and IoT, is available as a cloud-based Wialon Hosting and a server-based Wialon Local. The platform is based on GLONASS/GPS satellite navigation systems, GSM cellular communications (GPRS/SMS), Inmarsat, Iridium, Thuraya, Orbcomm and Globalstar satellite communications.
  • flespi — a backend platform connecting telematics hardware of any type to various telematics systems via REST API.
  • GPS-Trace — for personal tracking used to monitor the location of employees, vehicles, family members, pets. As of the end of 2020, the platform is used in 70+ countries by 130,000+ users

The most popular Gurtam services are Wialon Hosting (SaaS) and Wialon Local (server-based solution).[buzzword] The company has also developed GPS-Trace — a free service for personal tracking. It's particularly used to monitor the location of employees, relatives and domestic animals.

Gurtam constantly participates in industrial expos and events worldwide including CeBIT, GSMA Mobile World Congress, Securex South Africa,[4] Expo Seguridad Mexico,[5] CTIA, GITEX, Telematics Conference SE Europe[6] etc.

Since 2017 Gurtam is focused on the active development and the implementation of the back-end product flespi — PaaS solution[buzzword] offered for managing telematics data. By the moment flespi was released no other counterparts existed.

2004–2006 The development and sales of GPSDisp Windows-based software for satellite monitoring dispatchers.
September 2006 Gurtam company enters market with Wialon system, coming up with basic satellite monitoring functions.
September 2007 GPS-Trace Orange release – a service for non-commercial application providing the opportunity to connect 5 units, including one vehicle. By July 2017 GPS-Trace Orange is already being used in 159 countries.
October 2009 Gurtam office in Moscow was founded to interact with Russian business community and legislative bodies.
April 2010 Gurtam enters the international GPS monitoring market through introducing its software at the expo in Hannover, Germany.
November 2010 The first Gurtam partner conference is held in Minsk. Since 2010 the event has been held annually.
July 2012 The company reached the milestone of 100 000 units monitored in Wialon Data Center.
July 2013 New Gurtam office was founded in Boston as company was aiming the markets of both Americas.
October 2013 Gurtam team heads for Dubai to participate in GITEX international exhibition in the area of information and telecommunication technologies. Since then the company became a permanent participant of the event.
February 2015 400 000 units worldwide are registered in Wialon Data Center.[7]
February 2016 Gurtam launches an office in Dubai to expand the presence in the Middle East.
February 2016 The WiaTag app was released for personal tracking and mobile workforce management.

June 2020 Gurtam establishes the IoT project of the year,[13] the first global annual competition of IoT projects focused on telematics solutions.
April 2021 A new Gurtam office is founded in Vilnius, Lithuania

Random facts[]

In 2009, the company provided Wialon software for vehicle tracking at the international automobile race “A National Sport – Bridge of Friendship”. Further on the company cooperates with other automobile racing coordinators, including those engaged in “Beijing-Paris” multi-stage rally, Can-Am Trophy Russia[14] open off-road ATV-series, “Ukraine Trophy 2012”[15] trophy-raid.

In 2009, Gurtam released a cloud version of the Wialon Hosting satellite monitoring system.

Since August 2009, Gurtam has become a member of the Oracle company partner network.

In 2010, Gurtam started cooperation with MTS Belarus in the area of data communication via GPRS, SMS, MMS and CSD. Aliaksandr Kuushynau, Head of Wialon Division claimed the issue of lobbying the interests of several companies in the Russian market of satellite monitoring. Soon after that Gurtam appeared to be one of the founders of the Navitoring international professional community with a restrain on unfair competition being one of its core goals.

In 2011, more than 50 Gurtam dealers addressed to the governments of the Republic of Belarus, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Russia claiming recognition of June 2 as the professional holiday for satellite monitoring and navigation. The day has been celebrated by the professionals in the area of GPS and GLONASS technologies since 2012.

Wialon Local was released in 2014 being a server-based version with characteristics conforming to those of the cloud software version.

In 2014, Gurtam arranged Kilimanjaro expedition to test hardware and proprietary tracking system in extreme conditions.[16]

According to Berg Insight market research agency, Wialon was recognized a leading satellite monitoring system in the CIS and the Russian Federation in 2014[17] and 2015.[18]

As reported by Capterra, in 2016, Wialon was ranked 4th among the most popular fleet monitoring systems.[citation needed]

In 2017 Gurtam adds a new module to Wialon designed for passenger transportation. Originally created for school buses monitoring, the module is being used in other relevant fields.

In 2018 Gurtam establishes the data center in the US.

In 2019 Gurtam connects 2 000 000th unit to Wialon and holds the 10th partner conference TelematiX.[citation needed]

In 2020, Wialon partner CarCops from Estonia won the project by the Estonian Government with the GPS tracking for all the electric cars sold in the country in the next seven years.

Since July 2021 Gurtam has joined the IoT M2M Council (IMC) as a Sustaining Member company.[19]
