Gwen Ramokgopa

Dr. Gwendoline "Gwen" Malegwale Ramokgopa is the former MEC for Health in Gauteng, South Africa.

Biography[]

She succeeded Qedani Mahlangu and was succeeded by Nomathemba Mokgethi. She was the executive mayor of City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality from 2006 to 2010 and before that served as the MEC for Health in Gauteng from 1998 to 2006. Following her term as Tshwane mayor she was Deputy Minister of Health in the South African Government from November 2010 to May 2014.

Dr. Ramokgopa is the chancellor of Tshwane University of Technology. She also served as Chairperson of the executive committee of the former Pretoria City Council in 1995. She was born in Atteridgeville and completed her MBChB degree at MEDUNSA north of Pretoria.
