Hari Krishna Dwivedi is an Indian administrator who is currently serving as Chief Secretary for the Government of West Bengal since 1st June 2021. He succeeded his predecessor Alapan Bandhyopadhyay.[1]

Early life and education[]

Dwivedi was born on 20 June 1963 in Uttar Pradesh, India.

He did his schooling from Rashtriya Indian Military College, Dehradun. He hold a degree of Master of Science (in Chemistry).

On July 2021 West Bengal Chief Secretary H K Dwivedi has been conferred with a PhD degree by Calcutta University in Development Economics for his thesis titled 'Measurement of Fiscal and Debt Sustainability of Indian States — An Alternative Approach'.[2]

Dwivedi had done his Masters in Development Economics from London School of Economics and has published papers in reputed journals.

Career[]

Dwivedi first selected as Indian Foreign Service for some time, later he was shifted to IAS. He is an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 1988-batch of West Bengal cadre.

Dwivedi earlier held the post of additional chief secretary, home and hill affairs in the West Bengal government.[3][4] In addition to home and hill affairs, Dwivedi also held the charge of the secretary to the departments of parliamentary affairs, planning and statistics and programme monitoring in the Government of West Bengal.[5] He was earlier the state's additional chief secretary in the finance ministry.[1]

Dwivedi was commercial tax commissioner for a long time and was also in charge of the excise department.

Dwivedi has been a member of the board of West Bengal Power Development Corporation Ltd since 2012.
