Hackberry is a town in Denton County, Texas, United States. The population was 968 at the 2010 census.[5]

Geography[]

Hackberry is located at 33°9′0″N 96°55′7″W / 33.15000°N 96.91861°W / 33.15000; -96.91861 (33.150134, -96.918702).[6] It is neighbored by Frisco to the east and south, Little Elm to the north, and Lewisville Lake to the south and west.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.69 square miles (1.8 km2), all of it land. It is served by the Little Elm Independent School District.

The Köppen Climate Classification subtype for this climate is "BSk" (Tropical and Subtropical Steppe Climate).[7]

As of the census[3] of 2000, there were 544 people, 154 households, and 133 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,012.9 people per square mile (389.0/km2). There were 162 housing units at an average density of 301.6 per square mile (115.8/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 62.50% White, 1.47% African American, 0.37% Native American, 1.10% Asian, 31.07% from other races, and 3.49% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 45.40% of the population.

There were 154 households, out of which 50.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.2% were married couples living together, 9.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 13.6% were non-families. 10.4% of all households were made up of individuals, and 2.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.53 and the average family size was 3.75.

In the town, the population was spread out, with 37.5% under the age of 18, 8.8% from 18 to 24, 32.5% from 25 to 44, 15.6% from 45 to 64, and 5.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 29 years. For every 100 females, there were 124.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 113.8 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $40,000, and the median income for a family was $41,563. Males had a median income of $28,854 versus $18,750 for females. The per capita income for the town was $13,427. About 10.6% of families and 9.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 10.9% of those under age 18 and 10.7% of those age 65 or over.
