Hacker (theatrically released as Anonymous[1]) is a 2016 crime thriller, directed by Akan Satayev, about a group of young hackers who get involved with an online crime group and black market dealers across Toronto, Hong Kong, New York and Bangkok.[2] The cast consisted of Callan McAuliffe, Lorraine Nicholson, Daniel Eric Gold, and Clifton Collins Jr. The story was loosely based on real events. The screenplay was written by Timur Zhaxylykov and Sanzhar Sultan, who also produced in association with Brillstein Entertainment Partners.[3] The film had a limited release in the US (under the title Anonymous), on December 2, 2016.[4] Following that, Sony Pictures released the film on home entertainment.
Plot[]
As a family of immigrants who move to Canada the Danyliuk's subsequently struggle for money and have to live on welfare.
Alex grew up with few friends and spent his time online, later making money as a "Clicker" generating online traffic to generate revenue for websites, it's poorly paid and monotonous.
He eventually leaves home to live in Toronto, and to study in college. To make extra money to support himself, Alex Danyliuk turns to a life of crime and identity theft, with the help of Sye, a street-wise hustler who introduces him to the world of black market trading, they start with Credit Cards, lost, stolen and fake transactions. Alex gets caught trying to defraud the Royal Bank of Canada, and persuades Curtis, the Banks Head of Security to make a deal and let him go.
After finding success in causing financial market chaos, they gain the attention of Z, a mysterious masked figure, who's the head of an organization known as Anonymous, and a number one target by the FBI.
He also meets Kira, a young female hacker, Alex asks Kira to join him and Sye. They start printing their own Credit cards and dealing in Bitcoin, together they are very successful. Sye gets suspicious of the way Kira is working. Kira suggests that they relocate to Hong Kong leaving Sye behind. Kira sets up a deal with the Mob, which goes badly wrong.
All three relocate to Hong Kong to avoid further attention from the Mob. Things don't always go to plan in Hong Kong, and after a fight in a nightclub they end up in jail, Kira posts bail to get them out. Sye obtains money using an old card which Alex had asked him not to use, and ends in a huge row with Alex asking him to leave.
Alex and Kira go around all the ATM's in Hong Kong pocketing $2.3 million leaving Darkweb calling cards behind after every transaction. Kira wants to retire, but Alex wants to continue. Zed contacts him, and Alex arranges to meet him in person. They meet in an old factory, and are surprised to find Z in a wheelchair and heavily scarred. Alex and Kira agree to work for Z who explains the heavy penalties for failure.
Sye returns to Hong Kong, and makes contact with Alex from their hotel, but the Mob get to the hotel first and kill him before they can return. They continue with the agreed deal with Z to crash the Stock Market. Snipers shoot the Chairman of the Federal Reserve causing the markets to panic and crash. It later becomes apparent that he was an imposter and the assassination was faked.
Alex and Kira are later kidnapped at gunpoint and separated. Alex regains consciousness in an abandoned office, it looks like they've been set up.
Alex gets on a flight to Bangkok, Thailand, where Kira said to meet if anything goes wrong, but she doesnt show up. Alex tries to call his parents but they don't answer, his Mum just misses the call. He starts to rebuild his life and while in an internet café, He used a "Pick Up Card" and the clerk calls the police. While in the internet café, he learns of Z's apparent arrest, and Kira's death. The Police come in and arrest Alex, and he is sent to jail.
After 2 years in jail, and after attempting suicide, he is finally freed by Royal Pardon without any explanation. At the gates of the prison on his release he is met by Kira, she finally explains the whole story, and that she has been part of a deal she made with the FBI working as an agent to catch Zed. They both drive off together.
