Hajime Ootani (Japanese: 大谷 肇, Hepburn: Ōtani Hajime) is a Japanese animator, director, and storyboard artist currently working for Shaft. He made his directorial debut in 2007, but did not direct a full series until 2020.

Career[]

Ootani joined studio Imagin as an in-between animator in 2005. He mostly worked as a sub-contracting animator, and eventual episode director, for Madhouse and Imagin. He made his directorial debut with an OVA adaptation of Ayano Yamane's manga A Foreign Love Affair.[1] Around 2009, Imagin dissolved, although Ootani and the studio's final projects with Madhouse were Needless (2009) and Wolverine (2011), with the latter not crediting Imagin due to its dissolution.[2][3] In 2011, he left Madhouse and joined Shaft, and in 2020 made his series directorial debut as the chief director[a] of Assault Lily Bouquet with Shouji Saeki.[4]
