Hamnet is a 2020 novel by Maggie O'Farrell. It is a fictional account of Shakespeare's son, Hamnet, who died at age 11 in 1596. It won the 2020 Women's Prize for Fiction,[1] the Fiction Prize at the 2020 National Book Critics Circle Awards[2] and the 2021 Dalkey Literary Awards 'novel of the year'.[3] The novel was included on 15 lists of the best books of 2020.[4] It was also shortlisted for the 2021 Walter Scott Prize[5] and longlisted for the 2021 Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction.[6]
