Hendrikje Wangemann

Hendrikje Wangemann (born 1961 in Kropstädt) is a German operatic soprano.

Life[]

Hendrikje Wangemann's mother was a choir singer. Wangemann first received private singing lessons from Lotte Taubenreuther. She then studied with Eva Schubert and Christa Noack at the University of Music and Theatre Leipzig. She was also taught by Věnceslava Hrubá-Freiberger and Hermann Christian Polster. During her studies, she made her debut at the Halle Opera House as Armida in Handel's Rinaldo.

From 1987 to 1991, she was a member of the opera ensemble there. During this time, she regularly took part in the Handel Festival, Halle; in 1994, again in the opera Flavio. There she sang among others in Rinaldo (Armida), Tamerlano (Asteria), Rigoletto (Gilda), the Marriage of Figaro (Susanna), Fidelio (Marzellini), Falstaff (Nannetta) and Carmen (Micaela). In 1991 she moved to the Leipzig Opera (lyric soprano). Here she took on roles such as La Bohème (Musetta), Così fan tutte (Despina), Don Giovanni (Zerline), Le Grand Macabre (Amanda), Greek (Mum), The Nose (Pretzel Seller) and Rigoletto (Countess Ceprano). In 1997, she participated in the premiere of Jörg Herchet's Abraum. Guest performances have taken her among others to Switzerland, Austria, Hungary and Poland. She has also been active as a concert singer.[1]

In 2006, she became a lecturer and in 2008 a professor at the Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber Dresden. She has been Dean of Studies since 2010.
