Henry Ruhl

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Henry Ruhl (died April 27, 1945) was the only person executed in Wyoming by the United States Federal Government. This was also the second-to-last pre-Furman execution in the state and third-to-last as of 2019.

Ruhl was convicted for the June 30, 1943 murder of Matt Katmo, a Cheyenne war plant worker, at a picnic ground on a military reservation seven miles east of Laramie.[1] As this occurred on a government reservation, the homicide was considered a federal capital crime. Ruhl was put to death by gas chamber in the Wyoming State Penitentiary (Rawlins). He was 36 at time of his death.

Ruhl's execution was the first under new President Harry S. Truman.
