It is their last album with vocalist James Durbin who left the band in September 2019 and was replaced by previous vocalist Jizzy Pearl.[2][3] It is also their first album to be released since drummer Frankie Banali diagnosed with pancreatic cancer,[4] and the last album to feature him before his death in August 2020.[5]
Hollywood Cowboys received average reviews. Reviewer Aaron Badgley of Spill Magazine said ″band who knows what they do, and they do it well″ but the album overall was average and contained ″no mystery″ and is ″exactly what you would expect from Quiet Riot″.[7]
