Hori-san to Miyamura-kun (堀さんと宮村くん, lit. "Hori and Miyamura") is a Japanese shōnen web manga series written and illustrated by Hiroki Adachi, under the pseudonym Hero. It was self-published on Hero's website, Dokkai Ahen, from February 2007 to December 2011 in a four-panel format. The series received a print publication by Square Enix, who compiled the chapters in ten volumes under its imprint Gangan Comics from October 2008 to December 2011. Additional side-story chapters were compiled as Hori-san to Miyamura-kun Omake (堀さんと宮村くん おまけ). Since 2012, Hori-san to Miyamura-kun was adapted into an original video animation series.
Daisuke Hagiwara adapted the manga under Hero's supervision under the title Horimiya (ホリミヤ), which was serialized in Monthly G Fantasy from October 2011 to March 2021,[1] and is published in English by Yen Press.[2] An anime television series adaptation of Horimiya by CloverWorks aired from January to April 2021. A live action and TV drama adaptation premiered in February 2021.
Plot[]
Kyoko Hori is a bright and popular high school student, in contrast to her classmate Izumi Miyamura, a gloomy and seemingly nerdy, glasses-wearing boy. At home, Hori is a homebody who dresses down and looks after her younger brother, Souta. She takes every attempt to hide this from her classmates, as to not disrupt her social status and cause others to worry. One day, Souta comes home with a nosebleed. He had been accompanied by a boy with numerous piercings and tattoos, who introduces himself as Miyamura. After recognizing Hori, even when she is dressed down, they agree to keep their true identities concealed from their peers. However, over time, when the two begin to learn more about each other, they learn they have more in common then they originally thought. Together, they agree to assist one another in keeping their after-school identities a secret. As time moves on, the two suddenly find themselves closer then ever, eventually becoming a couple.

- At school, Izumi appears to be a gloomy pseudo-otaku fanboy with glasses and keeps to himself. OVA[]
Six original video animations (OVA) based on the Hori-san to Miyamura-kun manga have been produced. The first OVA was released on September 26, 2012,[3] the second on March 25, 2014,[10] the third on March 25, 2015,[1] the fourth on December 14, 2018. Episodes 5 and 6 are slated for a May 2021 release.[77]
The ending theme for episode 1 is "Shirotsumekusa" (シロツメクサ) by Asami Seto as Kyoko Hori. The ending theme for episode 2 is "Ame Oto" (雨音) by Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Izumi Miyamura. The ending theme for episode 3 is "Shiranai Sekai" (知らない世界) by Seto as Kyoko Hori. The ending theme for episode 4 is "Hinata" (向日葵) by Matsuoka. The ending themes for episodes 5 and 6 are "Trajectory" (軌跡) and "Gentle Song" (優しい歌) by Seto, respectively.

TV series[]
A 13-episode anime television series adaptation of Daisuke Hagiwara's Horimiya was announced on September 17, 2020. The series was animated by CloverWorks and directed by Masashi Ishihama, with Takao Yoshioka handling series' composition, Haruko Iizuka designing the characters, and Masaru Yokoyama composing the series' music. It aired from January 10 to April 4, 2021 on Tokyo MX and other channels.[4][78][a] The opening theme song is "Color Perfume" (色香水, "Iro Kо̄sui") performed by Yoh Kamiyama, while the ending theme song is "Promise" (約束, "Yakusoku") performed by Friends.[79]
Funimation licensed the series outside Asia and streamed it on its website in North America, the British Isles, Mexico, and Brazil, in Europe through Wakanim, and in Australia and New Zealand through AnimeLab.[80] Medialink has licensed the series in Southeast Asia and South Asia, and streamed it on Bilibili only in Southeast Asia.[81] The company later began streaming the first episode on their Ani-One YouTube channel for a limited time, from February 13 to March 15, 2021.[82] They also licensed the anime to Animax Asia for TV airing from August 2.[83] On February 5, 2021, Funimation announced that the series would be receiving an English dub, which premiered the next day.[5]

| Hori asks Miyamura to join for Christmas dinner, though he says he's unable to due to work, to Sota and Kyosuke's disappointment. Toru talks to Sengoku and Iura about his feelings for Yuki, and how despite technically not dating, he feels comfortable with their current relationship. Later, she visits his house to play together, where they grow increasingly anxious and embarrassed, even moreso being messed with by the Ishikawa house caretaker, Yashiro. Sengoku is terrified to visit Remi due to his fear of bugs. Hori thinks about what will happen after they graduate high school. On Christmas, each of the characters celebrate relaxing with their family and loved ones. Miyamura visits the Hori household for a short while before leaving for work. On the walk home, Hori tells him that she wants to stay with him even after they graduate, which he responds saying they should get married. | As the end of the school year approaches, the students clean out their lockers. Remi wants to take a trip with the rest of her friends, but worries about the potential of them leaving her in the future, which they reassure her they'll all remain friends. Miyamura reflects on what his and the others' school life would've been like if he hadn't inadvertently met Hori. At the graduation ceremony, Miyamura accidentally sneezes causing a ruckus during Sengoku's speech. He then talks to his past self declaring that he won't look away from what he used to be anymore. Sawada says her goodbyes to Hori, while Sakura says her thanks to Ishikawa. Yanagi approaches Yuki about the idea of their group all going out for a trip sometime. Kyosuke shows up to mess with Miyamura and Hori, and Motoko appears to walk Iura home. Miyamura and Hori head out together, as he thinks about all the things he loves about Hori, all she's done to help him come out of his shell, and what he can do to show her his thanks. | |||||
Live-action film and TV drama[]
A live-action film and a television series adaptation was announced on November 23, 2020, with the main cast and staff being revealed on December 21, 2020. The film and TV drama are produced by Horipro and directed by Hana Matsumoto. The theatrical edition, compiling the content from the first three television episodes with its own exclusive scenes, was screened for a week from February 5, 2021, while the television version began broadcasting on MBS's Dramaism programming block, TBS and Apple TV+ exclusively in Japan on February 17, 2021.[87][88] The opening theme is "What Do We Do?" (どうすんの？, Dō Sun'no?), while the ending theme is "Lamplight" (灯, "Tomoshibi"), both performed by Toketadenkyu.[89]

Volume 2 of Horimiya reached the 15th place on the weekly Oricon manga charts and, as of December 2, 2012, had sold 43,735 copies;[90] volume 3 reached the 32nd place and, as of May 4, 2013, had sold 75,124 copies;[91] volume 4 reached the 21st place[92] and, as of November 10, 2013, had sold 96,786 copies;[93] volume 5 reached the 8th place[94] and, as of May 11, 2014, had sold 171,530 copies;[95] volume 6 reached the 2nd place[96] and, as of November 16, 2014, had sold 208,788 copies.[97]
Horimiya was number 6 in the Nationwide Bookstore Employees' Recommended Comics of 2014.[98]
