Howard C. Bauchner, vice chairman of pediatrics at the Boston University School of Medicine, was the editor-in-chief of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) from July 1, 2011 until June 30, 2021.[2][3] During his time with JAMA, he expanded the journal's digital presence, renamed all specialty journals, and launched JAMA Oncology, JAMA Cardiology, and JAMA Network Open.[4] Due to JAMA deputy editor Ed Livingston downplaying the existence of racism in medicine on a JAMA Network podcast, Bauchner was placed on administrative leave since March 25, 2021 while his role in the publishing of the comments is investigated. He subsequently resigned effective June 30, 2021.[5] [6]

From 2003 to 2011, he served as editor-in-chief of Archives of Disease in Childhood.[4]
