Unknown to Roopa, Gopalnath loves fellow villager, Shyama (Shashikala). After the death of Roopa's father, she gives birth to a baby girl, Ranibala. Gopalnath arranges to have Roopa killed; marries Shyama, and lets Ranibala live in a hostel.
