The institute enables the translation of world-class medical research into clinical practice, to prevent, cure and treat serious illnesses & diseases affecting lives throughout the world. It was founded in 1998 through a partnership between the University of Newcastle and the Hunter New England Local Health District.[1][self-published source?]
