"I Love You, Honey" is a song by American country music singer Patsy Cline. It was composed by Eddie Miller and W.S. Stevenson. It was released as a single via Coral Records in 1956.

Background and content[]

Patsy Cline signed her first recording contract in 1954 with Four Star Records and began releasing singles through the label shortly afterward.[2] She began working under the direction of producer Owen Bradley who helped find material for Cline's first recording session. She recorded "I Love You Honey" in this first recording session, which took place on January 5, 1955 at the Bradley Film and Recording Studio, located in Nashville, Tennessee. Cline also cut the tracks "I Cried All the Way to the Altar," "I Don't Wanta" and "Come on In" during the same session. "I Love You Honey" was one of several tracks composed by Eddie Miller and W.S. Stevenson that Cline would record for the label.[3] According to Miller, he had first composed the song when he was fourteen years old.[4]

Release and reception[]

"I Love You, Honey" was originally shelved after being recorded in 1955. According to Paul Cohen of Four Star Records, he was not pleased with the results of Cline's recording session.[4] It was later released as a single on February 5, 1956 on Coral Records. It was the third single released in Cline's career.[5] The single released also included a flip side, "Come on In."[6] The song received positive reception from writer Thom Jurek of AllMusic, who named it an "album pick" when reviewing the 1991 box set release, The Patsy Cline Collection.[7] Ellis Nassour of the biography Honky Tonk Angel: The Intimate Story of Patsy Cline called the track "a funny, bouncy standout."[4]
