The Illuminated Film Company[1] is a British animation company founded in 1993 by Iain Harvey.[2]

The Illuminated Film Company is located in Hammersmith, London. The building in which it is located obtains an edit suit, drawing facilities, computers, and line producing equipment. They are currently working on a project called ON ANGEL WINGS that is an animated story based on the book by Michael Morpurgo. It tells the nativity story from the point of view of a young shepherd.[3]

Productions include The World of Eric Carle (1993), T.R.A.N.S.I.T (1997) directed by Piet Kroon, A Christmas Carol - The Movie directed by Jimmy T. Murakami, War Game directed by Dave Unwin, Little Princess series, On Angel Wings animated special based on Michael Morpurgo's books, and latest TV series The Rubbish World of Dave Spud. Three series of Little Princess directed by Edward Foster were made for Channel 5's Milkshake in the UK, plus 2 half-hour specials between 2006 and 2012. The series returned in 2019-2020, directed by Sue Tong, with two further series for Milkshake. Illuminated Films also produced the animation special Prince Cinders (1993) and look after the rights for Raymond Briggs' Father Christmas (1991). The Rubbish World of Dave Spud directed by Edward Foster was commissioned by CITV in the UK and pre-sold to ABC Australia, SVT Sweden and Welsh language S4C. The series is distributed by Beta Film. Illuminated is currently in production of a second series of The Rubbish World of Dave Spud, thanks to the success of the first series and popularity with fans of the show.

In 2020, Illuminated Films has been awarded funding from the BFI Young Audience Content Fund for a half hour special called A Bear Named Wojtek based on a true story about a orphaned bear in World War 2 that is enlisted into the Polish army and travels to Scotland before ending up at Edinburgh Zoo. Illuminated Films produced a second commercial for Barbour in 2020 for their Christmas campaign featuring Father Christmas. In 2019, Illuminated Films produced a commercial for the designer brand Barbour featuring the character Father Christmas by Raymond Briggs for their Christmas campaign. In 2017, Illuminated Films began production on the first series of The Rubbish World of Dave Spud. At the end of 2014 Illuminated Films completed work on On Angel Wings based on the book by Michael Morpurgo. Broadcast on BBC1 Christmas 2014 and distributed worldwide by Kaleidoscope Film Distribution. In October 2011, Little Princess was nominated for the British Academy Children's Award in the Pre-School Animation Category that took place on 30 November 2012. It was nominated for the episode known as "I Want to Recycle." In the months of July and August 2011, Illuminated Film Company revealed its new series Dave Spud, which is an animated series that is for children aged about 6 to 11 years old.[4]
