Iman Qureshi (born 20 July 1997) is a Pakistani tennis player.[1]

Background[]

Qureshi was born to Omer and Meena Qureshi on 20th July 1997. She is the eldest child and has two siblings, Rustam & Sabrina. Qureshi, whose growth in the game was supervised by her father Omer Qureshi – an ardent sports enthusiast who plays football, basketball, tennis and golf – developed the instinct of a winner from a tender age. She started playing tennis at the age of eight at the Main Gulberg Tennis Club under the coaching of Mohammad Baber. Later, her father brought her under the coaching of former Davis Cupper Rashid Malik. Additionally, she also trained with Davis Cup Coach, Muhammad Khalid in Model Town. Qureshi also has training sessions at the Lahore Gymkhana Club.

Apart from Malik & Khalid, former National Champion and Davis Cupper, Haseeb Aslam has mentored Iman and helped improve her tennis strategy. Qureshi finished her high school from Lahore Grammar School Defence, Phase 1. She then pursued her bachelor’s degree and double majored in Business Administration and Sociology from the University of Waterloo in Canada where she graduated with a distinction.

Career[]

Qureshi started playing tennis at the age of 8. The talented tennis star[2] Ranked 3rd in ATF 14 and Under Championships (Asian Tennis Federation).[3] Apart from this, at the age of 11 she secured her first National Women’s Title. In 2008, she was the youngest participant to win the National Governors Cup.

She was former Pakistan Number 1 in the Under 18 category and maintained a top 4 ranking in the Women’s category with numerous National Titles and Championships.

Qureshi represented Pakistan and won International Titles in Aleppo (Syria), Damascus (Syria), Doha (Qatar), Tehran (Iran), Benin (West Africa) and Yangon (Myanmar).

Qureshi represented Pakistan in the Junior Fed Cup in Malaysia in 2013. Additionally, she also played for the country in the International Fed Cup in 2013 & 2015 held in Astana (Kazakhstan) & Hyderabad (India) respectively. Furthermore, in 2016 Qureshi went with the Pakistan National Team to Guwahati (India) for the XII South Asian Games. [4]

She was the only Pakistani tennis player to be ranked 3rd in the All-Asia Asian Tennis Federation (ATF) Championships.[5]

Qureshi trained in Lahore and also attended training camps in the US & France.

After completing her high school, Qureshi continued to play varsity tennis in Minnesota (USA) for her University, Carleton College (2016-2017).

Other activities[]

Besides tennis, Qureshi is a good swimmer and has won several competitions. She also loves to play basketball as part of her fitness regime. Qureshi enjoys travelling and exploring different countries and cultures. Qureshi loves spending time with family and friends as well.
