Imbert de La Platière, lord of Bourdillon (1516 - 1567), was a French army officer and Marshal of France in 1564.

Biography[]

A member of the Famille de La Platière, native of the region Nivernais, Imbert de la Platière, Lord of Bourdillon, Frasnay, Montigny-lès-Cherlieu, Saint-Sulpice, Saint-Aubin and Époisses,^[1] born in 1516^[2] (he was still a minor when his father died in 1525),^[3] is the son of Philippe de la Platière, lord of the Bordes (maître d' hôtel of the king, captain of city Niort in 1520 and died in 1523) and Catherine de La Fayette.^[3] He is the nephew of Imbert de la Platière (d. 1519), Bishop of Nevers.^[1]

Military career[]

He participated in King Francis I of France's military campaigns in Champagne and Italy. He was at the Battle of Ceresole in 1544.^[4]

He became bailli (governor) of Auxois in 1545, Maréchal de camp in 1552, Lieutenant general in charge of the government of Champagne and Brie (1553). He was at the relief of Thionville in 1558.^[4]

Lieutenant général in Piedmont and governor of the Marquisate of Saluzzo he returned to France and on 22 December 1562, the Queen of France Catherine of Médicis gave him the dignity of Marshal of France.^[4]

He died at Fontainebleau on 4 April 1567. He had no children and his niece Françoise de la Platière became his heiress.^[4]
