International Microbiology is a peer-reviewed scientific journal published by Springer and the official journal of the Spanish Society for Microbiology. The journal publishes articles on all aspects of microbiology, including eukaryotic microorganisms, and aims to advance and disseminate research in the fields of basic and applied microbiology among scientists around the world.[1]

The Spanish Society for Microbiology (Sociedad Española de Microbiología) started to publish an academic journal in 1934 (Microbiología Española (1947–1986) and Microbiología SEM (1986–1998), and initiated International Microbiology in 1998 as successor. As of 2018, it is published by Springer as a subscription journal with optional open access, also known as hybrid open access scheme.

The journal is indexed in Web of Science, Scopus, Biological Abstracts, Medline, and Excerpta Medica, as well as other more specialized indexes. According to the Journal Citation Reports, the journal has a 2019 impact factor of 1.833 and a 5-year impact factor of 1.803.[2]
