Isabel Osorio

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Isabel Osorio (1522–1589) was a Spanish courtier. She was the long-term royal mistress of King Philip II of Spain.[1]

She was the lady-in-waiting of empress Isabella of Portugal and after 1539 to Joanna of Austria, Princess of Portugal.[2]

She reportedly had two children with Philip. She was rumoured to be married to the king, but this is not believed to have been accurate.

Their relationship was finished by Philip's marriage to Elizabeth of Valois in 1559, and she left the royal court and retired to a convent, though without becoming a nun.

She is the subject of a novel, Isabel Osorio: El amor secreto de Felipe II.
