Israel Shatzman (25 November 1934 - 24 October 2017) is an Israeli historian. He has been Professor of History at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (1976-), a Fellow at the Israel Institute for Advanced Studies and Director at the National Library of Israel (1990-1997).[1]

He is one of the foremost scholars of ancient Rome and has written extensively on Judea and the Roman military.[2]
