Jabagh Qazanoqo (Kabardian: Къэзэнокъуэ Жэбагъы, romanized: Qəzənoqwe Jəbağı; Adyghe: Къэзэнэкъо Джэбэгъ, romanized: Qəzen��qo Djəbəğ; Russian: Жабаги Казаноков, romanizedJabagi Kazanokov) was a Kabardian Circassian philosopher, poet, military strategist, and diplomat who supported the idea of a united and fully independent Northern Caucasus, laying the ideological foundation for the MRNC.[1]

Biography[]

He was a pious Muslim, and a hajji. He was the personal advisor of the Kabardian prince . In 1722 he joined diplomatic meetings with Russia.[2] He gained fame for reforming the Kabardian justice system probably based on the Quran and Adyghe Xabze.[3] He played a big role in the Battle of Kanzhal.[4] He opposed the idea of mandate and supported full independence. He died in 1749 at his home village.[5]
