Jacob Bernard-Docker (born June 30, 2000) is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman currently playing with the Belleville Senators in the American Hockey League (AHL) as a prospect to the Ottawa Senators of the National Hockey League (NHL).[1] Bernard-Docker was drafted in the first round, 26th overall, by the Senators in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.
Playing career[]
Bernard-Docker was drafted in the fifth round of the WHL Bantam Draft by the Swift Current Broncos but he eventually decided to follow the Alberta Junior Hockey League route to help his development.[2] Bernard-Docker joined the Okotoks Oilers for the 2016–17 season, after completing a year at Edge School.[1] In 2018, he was voted CJHL's Top Defenceman for the 2017–18 season, and was also awarded the W.G. (Bill) Scott Memorial Trophy as the league's most outstanding defenceman.[3]
Leading up to the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, Bernard-Docker was placed 33rd overall for North American skaters in the final NHL Central Scouting Bureau rankings.[4] He was eventually drafted in the first round, 26th overall, by the Ottawa Senators, making him the highest drafted Okotoks Oilers player in team history.[5] Despite being drafted, Bernard-Docker stayed committed to the University of North Dakota.[6]
On April 1, 2021, Bernard-Docker signalled the end of his collegiate career by signing a three-year, entry-level contract with the Ottawa Senators.[7] He made his NHL debut on April 14, 2021 versus the Winnipeg Jets in Ottawa.
Personal life[]
Bernard-Docker is the eldest of two siblings who played hockey at Edge School.[8]
