Jasmin Savoy Brown (born March 21, 1994) is an American actress best known for her role as Evangeline "Evie" Murphy on HBO's The Leftovers.[1] She also provided the voice and motion capture for Phin Mason / Tinkerer in Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

Early life[]

Brown was born in Alameda, California but raised in Springfield, Oregon.[2] At age four, Brown had her first role in a church musical which sparked her love of performing. Growing up, she participated in numerous musicals and was a member of various musical clubs, choirs and groups, some of which include University of Oregon, Portland Shakespeare Project, Art's Umbrella, Oregon Children's Choir, and Upstart Crow Studios.[3] Following high school, Brown moved to Portland, Oregon to pursue acting.[4]

Career[]

Brown began with minor roles in NBC's Grimm and Freeform's The Fosters. She went on to star in Camp Harlow and Forgotten Hero, and guest star on NBC's Brooklyn Nine-Nine.[5]

In 2015, Brown landed the recurring role of Evangeline "Evie" Murphy in seasons 2 and 3 of HBO's The Leftovers.[6][7] Evie is the daughter of Erika and John who goes missing with her friends after an earthquake.[8] Following The Leftovers, Brown was cast as Nina (Cameron's new girlfriend) on Freeform's Stitchers.[9]

Brown went on to play series regular character Emilia Bassano on the TNT drama series Will, which told the story of William Shakespeare. Emilia was a musician, poet, and writer, who went on to become the first female professional English poet and was believed to be the "Dark Lady" of Will’s sonnets.[10]

Brown is a series regular in the Shondaland drama For the People on ABC. The series is set in the Southern District of New York Federal Court, aka "The Mother Court".[11] It follows brand-new lawyers working for both the defense and the prosecution, as they handle the most high-profile and high-stakes cases in the country – all as their personal lives intersect. Brown stars as lawyer "Allison Adams", the best friend and law school colleague of Britt Robertson’s character in the Federal’s Public Defender’s Office. The first season premiered March 13, 2018.[12] and was picked up for a second season in the spring of 2018.

Two weeks prior to the premiere of For The People, Brown signed with ICM Partners.[13]

In September 2020, Brown was cast in an undisclosed role on the fifth Scream film, which was directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.[14] The film will be released on January 14, 2022.[15][16]
