Jeanne Sauvé Memorial Cup

The Jeanne Sauvé Memorial Cup is the Canadian championship trophy in the sport of ringette which is named after Canada's first female Governor General, Jeanne Mathilde Sauvé (née Benoît), and awarded annually, during the Canadian Ringette Championships, to the winning team in Canada's National Ringette League (NRL). Prior to the creation of the NRL, the trophy was awarded to the winning 18+ ringette team at the Canadian Ringette Championships. Today the trophy is presented to the NRL division Canadian champions at the annual Canadian Ringette Championships.

The Jeanne Sauvé Memorial Cup was established by , the first President of , and was named after Jeanne Mathilde Sauvé (née Benoît), Canada's first female Governor General.[1] Initially coined the "Jeanne Sauvé Cup", and initiated in December 1984, it was first presented at the 1985 Canadian Ringette Championships in Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Québec. It is now entitled the "Jeanne Sauvé Memorial Cup", in memory of the late Governor General of Canada.[2]

On April 15, 1985, the ringette team from Winnipeg, Manitoba, were competing in what was then called the "Debs" age group (18-and-over) and became the first team to win the Jeanne Sauvé Cup.[3]
