She was previously a member of the Singapore People's Party (SPP) from 2015 to 2019 and the National Solidarity Party (NSP) from 2011 to 2015, serving as the NSP's Vice-President from June 2011 and then Secretary-General from October 2013 to January 2015.[1][2] Prior that, she was a member of the Reform Party from 2009 to 2011.

Education[]

Chong-Aruldoss was educated at CHIJ Katong Convent, before going on to the University of Kent at Canterbury where she completed a bachelor's degree in Law in 1985. In 1987, she completed a Master's degree in Corporate & Commercial Law at the London School of Economics (LSE).

She was called to the bar at Gray's Inn in 1986 and was admitted to the Singapore Bar in 1989.

Career[]

Chong-Aruldoss began her legal career at Allen & Gledhill LLP.

In 2001, she co-founded Archilex Law Corporation (a founding member of Mozaic Group Law Practice). She is currently practising law at Robert Wang & Woo LLP.

Chong-Aruldoss is married to James Martin Aruldoss and they have four children.[citation needed]

Political career[]

Chong-Aruldoss joined the Reform Party in June 2009, but resigned on 18 February 2011.[3]

In March 2011, Chong-Aruldoss joined the National Solidarity Party.[4] She stood as a candidate for the party at the 2011 general election in the Mountbatten Single Member Constituency against Lim Biow Chuan of the governing People's Action Party (PAP). Chong-Aruldoss garnered 8,436 votes (41.35%) and was defeated by Lim who won 11,965 votes (58.64%).

On 24 June 2011, Chong-Aruldoss was elected Vice-President of NSP, a position she held until on 27 October 2013 when she was elected the Secretary-General of NSP following the resignation of the previous Secretary-General, Hazel Poa, who stood down due to health reasons.[5]

In January 2015, Chong-Aruldoss decided not to re-stand for the position of Secretary-General at the Party's Central Executive Committee elections and instead challenged the incumbent, Sebastian Teo, for the position of President of the Party. However she was unsuccessful and Teo was re-elected as President while Tan Lam Siong was elected as Secretary-General.

In February 2015, Chong-Aruldoss resigned from NSP. Subsequently, she joined the Singapore People's Party in April 2015.[6]

At the 2015 general election, Chong-Aruldoss again stood in the single-member constituency of Mountbatten (this time as an SPP candidate) and again faced Lim Biow Chuan as the PAP candidate. Chong-Aruldoss took 5,992 votes (28.16%) with Lim taking 15,290 (71.84%).

On 23 April 2017, Chong-Aruldoss was elected to SPP's Central Executive Committee where she held the position of Vice-Chairman until her resignation on 2 September 2019.

In her Facebook post on 4 September 2019 announcing her resignation, Chong-Aruldoss said she hoped to continue serving the cause of Singaporeans in one way or another.

On 4 September 2019, Chong-Aruldoss told The Independent Singapore in an interview that she had "no plans to join another political party". On October, Chong-Aruldoss was seen volunteering with the Workers' Party members and volunteers around Eunos Crescent.[7]
