Jemima Osunde (born April 30, 1996)[1] is a Nigerian actress, model and presenter. She gained exposure after playing Leila in the television series Shuga.[2] Osunde was nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role at the 15th Africa Movie Academy Awards for her performance in The Delivery Boy (2018).[3]

Background[]

Jemima Osunde was born into a family of five and is a native of Edo State. She is the last child and only daughter of her parents and grew up with her mum, dad and older brothers.[citation needed]

She studied physiotherapy at the University of Lagos.[4][5][6] Osunde appeared in the film Jungle Jewel after being encouraged by her uncle to pursue acting in 2014.

She was cast as Laila in MTV Shuga, appearing in the fourth series. When the show moved to South Africa for its fifth series, Osunde was written out for a year. She returned for the sixth series when it returned to Nigeria.[7] In 2018, she starred alongside Linda Ejiofor in the second series of NdaniTV's .[8][9]

Osunde was back for the seventh series of MTV Shuga "Alone Together" which went out nightly featuring "lockdown" conversations between the main characters during lockdown from coronavirus.[10] All of the filming will be done by the actors[11] who include Lerato Walaza, Sthandiwe Kgoroge, Uzoamaka Aniunoh, Mamarumo Marokane and Mohau Cele.

In 2020, she was in the cast of Quam's Money which is a follow-up to the 2018 film she starred in New Money. The follow-up story follows what happens when a security guard (Quam) suddenly becomes a multi-millionaire. The new cast was led by Falz, Toni Tones, Blossom Chukwujekwu, Nse Ikpe-Etim and Osunde Jemima.[12]

She attended Air Force Primary School, went on to Holy Child college for her secondary school education and had her tertiary education at the college of Medicine, University of Lagos.[13]

In 2019, Osunde graduated from the University of Lagos with a degree in physiotherapy.[14]

Jemima Osunde has joined thousands of Nigerian graduates for the mandatory National Youths Service Corps orientation programme as she uploaded a picture of herself on Instagram on June 7, 2021.[15]
