Jonas Henry Arnell-Szurkos, previously Arnell, born February 28, 1969 in Örebro, Sweden is a Swedish phaleristician.[1] Since 2018 he is Amanuensis at the Chancery of the Swedish Royal Orders of Knighthood.[2]

Biography[]

Arnell-Szurkos was raised in Eskilstuna and has a degree of Bachelor of Education[3] and a degree of Bachelor of Social Science at Stockholm University.[2] He worked 2000-2012 at the Parliament Chancery of the Christian Democrats, mainly as Political Advisor on Education and Culture.[4] Presently, Arrnell-Szurkos is the Deputy Secretary-General/Head of Office for the Swedish Soldiers Homes Association,[5] He is a Member of the Royal Swedish Society Pro Patria.[6]

Phaleristics[]

In 1998 Arnell-Szurkos created a website where he accounts for genuine and fake orders of chivalry, medals and fraternal organizations in Sweden, from 2012 complemented with a blog. He has lectured on phaleristics [7] and commented phaleristics in media.[8][9][10] One important aspect has been to support and promote genuine orders of chivalry, a work for which Arnell-Szurkos has received several awards.[11][12]

In 1999 Arnell-Szurkos launched a lobby campaign towards the MPs of the Parliament of Sweden to reinstate the Order of the Seraphim and the Order of the Polar Star for Swedish citizens as well as reinstating the dormant Order of the Sword and the dormant Order of Vasa. This contributed to his subsequent employment at the Parliament Chancery of the Christian Democrats.[13]

Since 2018 Arnell-Szurkos is Amanuensis in the Chancery of the Swedish Royal Orders of Knighthood, the fourth to hold the office since its institution in 1984.[4] In 2018 he was co-founder of the Swedish Phaleristics Association.[14] He is also Associate Companion of the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States (2013)[15]
