Jonathan Samuels

Jonathan Samuels (born 1972) is a British broadcaster and journalist. He co-anchored on Sky News Sunrise between 17 October 2016 and 13 September 2018. As of 17 September 2018, he anchors Friday's edition of Sky News Tonight and The News Hour as well as presenting during weekend periods. Previously he has held a range of different Senior correspondent posts for Sky News, the 24-hour television news service operated by Sky Television, part of Sky plc. He was based in Sydney from 2011 to 2014.[1]

Previously, Samuels was chief correspondent on Five News and an occasional presenter.[2] He was a reporter for Sky News and before that, a journalist with the BBC, where he presented and reported for BBC Look East and BBC Spotlight. He began his broadcasting career as a BBC trainee at BBC Radio Cornwall.[3]

Samuels was educated at The King's School, in Chester, Cheshire, and later studied at Loughborough University and then Cardiff University, where he obtained his postgraduate diploma in broadcast journalism.

Life and career[]

A journalist for more than 20 years, Samuels has covered many major domestic and international stories, from natural disasters to crime to politics. He has reported from Brussels and Turkey on terror attacks, Beijing on the missing MH370, Iraq, covered the crisis in Zimbabwe, broadcast from the Falkland Islands, was in the United States for the 2008 election and covered the conflicts between Israel and Gaza, and Israel and Lebanon. At Sky News, he presented the Michael Jackson trial reconstructions which also aired on Sky One.[citation needed]

He lives in West London with his wife and two children.[4]

In 2020 amid the COVID-19 crisis Samuels joined a supergroup of celebrities including Frank Bruno and X Factor winner Sam Bailey to raise money for both Alzheimer's Society and Action for Children. They recorded a new rendition of Merry Christmas Everyone by Shakin' Stevens and it was released digitally on 11 December 2020, on independent record label Saga Entertainment. The music video debuted exclusively on Good Morning Britain the day before release. The song peaked at number two on the iTunes pop chart. [5][6]
