Joseph Armando Espaillat (born December 27, 1976) is an American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church who has been serving as auxiliary bishop for the Archdiocese of New York since 2022.

Biography[]

Espaillat was born on December 27, 1976, in New York City.[1] He was raised in Manhattan by parents who emigrated to the United States from the Dominican Republic.[2] Espaillat attended Cathedral Preparatory School in Manhattan and earned a Bachelor of Philosophy degree at Fordham University in 1998.[3]On May 17, 2003, Espaillat was ordained to the priesthood.

Pope Francis appointed Espaillat as an auxiliary bishop for the Archdiocese of New York on January 25, 2022.[4] Espaillat was consecrated as a bishop on March 1 2022,[5] making him the youngest Catholic bishop in the United States and one of the youngest in the world.[6]
