Commissioner Lewis
Joseph J. Lewis (October 5, 1801 – April 5, 1883) was the 2nd IRS commissioner.[1][2]
Early life[]
Lewis was born in Chester County, Pennsylvania to Quaker Enoch Lewis who taught mathematics at the Westtown School.[1] He was elected as a member to the American Philosophical Society in 1881.[3]
