The Journal of Medicinal Chemistry is a peer-reviewed medical journal covering research in medicinal chemistry. It is published by the American Chemical Society. It was established in 1959 as the Journal of Medicinal and Pharmaceutical Chemistry and obtained its current name in 1963.[1] Portoghese had served as editor-in-chief from 1972-2011.[1] In 2012, Gunda I. Georg (University of Minnesota) and Shaomeng Wang (University of Michigan) succeeded Philip S. Portoghese (University of Minnesota) as co-Editor-in -Chief. In 2021, Craig W. Lindsley (Vanderbilt University) became the new Editor-in-Chief, having served as the founding Editor-in-Chief of ACS Chemical Neuroscience since 2010. According to the Journal Citation Reports, the journal received its highest impact factor to date in 2020 impact factor, with an IF of 7.446, ranking it 1st out of 61 journals in the category "Chemistry, Medicinal".[2]
