Joyce Kabutu Moriku

Joyce Kabutu Moriku is a Ugandan medical doctor, academician, and legislator in the 11th parliament of the Republic of Uganda. She is the woman representative member of parliament for Moyo District in the Northern Region of Uganda a position she has held since 2016.[1] She is affiliated to the National Resistance Movement (NRM) as it flag bearer, She is married to Professor Kaducu an academician at Gulu University.

Background and education[]

Joyce Kabutu Moriku was born on 21 April 1969.[1] She completed her Primary Leaving Examinations from Laropi Primary School in 1984. She then went to Metu S.S.S where she completed her Uganda Certificate of Education in 1988. She finished her Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education from Sacred Heart S.S. which is located in Gulu in 1997.[1] Joyce Kabutu Moriku graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from Mbarara University of Science and Technology in 2002. She obtained her Postgraduate Diploma in Project Planning and Management from Gulu University in 2005. She went to Makerere University where she graduated with a Master of Medicine in Pediatrics and Child Health in 2008. From Gulu University, she graduated in 2015 with a PhD in Neuroscience.[1]

Work experience[]

From 1988-1997, Joyce Kabutu Moriku was the Religious Nun, Pastoral Work at Sacred Heart Sisters located in Moyo District. She became the Junior House Officer at St. Mary's Hospital Lacor. She then became a medical coordinator at The AIDS Support Organization (TASO) from 2003 until 2005. She became a Senior House Officer at Mulago Hospital from 2005 until 2008. Joyce Kabutu became a Medical Director at Mildmay Uganda from 2008, serving there until 2009. She went to Gulu University where she lectured between 2010 and 2015. Joyce Kabutu Moriku was the elected the Woman Member of Parliament for Moyo District in 2016 and She also served as the State Minister for Health (Primary Health Care) at the Ministry of Health (Uganda)[1][2] She is also a full member of Uganda Medical Association.
