Kanagaratnam Shanmugaratnam (2 April 1921 – 28 July 2018) was a Singaporean pathologist. Shanmugaratnam was considered to be Singapore's "father of pathology" and best known for establishing the (SCR) in 1967.[citation needed] He was also a respected expert on nasopharyngeal carcinoma.

Career[]

Professor Tan Chorh Chuan, the chief health scientist and executive director at the Ministry of Health's Office for Healthcare Transformation described Shanmugaratnam as "the pathologist to send the difficult cases which no one else could diagnose to" and "a very humble man and had a brilliant mind but always kind and gentle."[citation needed]

Death[]

He died on 28 July 2018, aged 97, at his home in Singapore.[1][2][3][4][5][6]

Personal life[]

He was the father of Singapore Senior Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam.[7]
