Kandu

The Kandu or Kanu are a Hindu Bania caste in India.

The community was traditionally engaged in the sale of "foodstuffs and sundry eats". They are entitled as OBC in Central Government and EBC in Bihar. The Kanu are a Hindu caste in India, Bangladesh and Nepal. They traditionally provided parched grains and are one of the Bania castes in the Vaishya Varna. In Bihar, Kanu often use Gupta as a surname. Saints from this community include Sant Paltu Prasad from Nagpurjalalpur (near Ayodhya), who composed the Bhajnavali .

The Kandu caste has sub-castes Madhesia, Maghaiya, Bantaria, Kanaujia, Gour, Koranch, Dhuria, Rawani, Ballamitra, and Thathera (distinct from the Thathera caste). In Bihar state, Kandus are found in Samastipur, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Muzaffarpur, Siwan, Patna and Bhojpur districts. In Nepal they are found in the Terai from Jhapa district in the southeast corner west to Banke as well as in Kathmandu.

The Kandu caste has sub-castes Madhesia, Maghaiya, Bantaria, Kanaujia, Gour, Koranch, Dhuria, Rawani, Ballamitra, and Thathera (distinct from the Thathera caste). In Bihar state, Kanus are found in Aurangabad, Arwal, Jehanabad, Gaya, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Muzaffarpur, Siwan, Patna and Bhojpur districts (Bihar). In Nepal they are found in the Terai from Jhapa district in the southeast corner west to Banke as well as in Kathmandu. Now a days, they are enriched in hard work study and business & many more. But even these are not in high profile Job or business.
