Karak, Pahang

Karak is a small town in Bentong District, Pahang, Malaysia. It is well known as a rest town of Federal route from Kuala Lumpur to Kuantan. It also gives its name to the famous Karak Highway, which links it to Kuala Lumpur.

With its location at the foothills of Malaysia’s main mountain range, the Titiwangsa Mountain Range, this town is an important water catchment area not just for Pahang but for the Klang Valley as well.^{[citation needed]}

Karak is famous for being the eastern end of the Karak Highway and the beginning of the East Coast Expressway . Nevertheless Karak Highway is now a part of the latter, being administered by the same concessionaire and having the same route number. The East Coast Expressway is concurrent with highway 2 from Gombak, Selangor until here.

For toll-free alternatives, there is the old Kuala Lumpur–Kuantan highway . Karak is also the northern end of highway , which enables motorists from Negeri Sembilan and Malacca to enter Pahang while completely bypassing the Klang Valley.

Public transportation[]

As with most of western Pahang, Karak is not served by the KTM rail system. Bus options are available though.

Politics[]

Karak is the main town within the Sabai state constituency of the Pahang State Legislative Assembly, with a total of 10,000 registered voters. The seat is currently held by Kamache Doray Rajoo of the DAP.
