Karl Mehringer (died 1935) was a German climber and mountaineer. Along with Max Sedlmayr, he is notable for being a member of the first team to attempt to climb the North Face of the Eiger in 1935. Over a period of three days, he and Sedlmayr climbed as far as the top of the "Flat Iron" (Bügeleisen in German) before they were overtaken by a storm and both were killed. The site of their last bivouac on the face subsequently became known as the "Death Bivouac".
Mehringer's body was found on the Second Icefield in 1962 by a German rope team.[1]
