Karl Edward Rice, known online as Karl Rock, is a New Zealand blogger, [2] and YouTuber who speaks Hindi and lived in India but is currently blacklisted by the Indian Government for Visa violations. He is best known for his YouTube vlogs and his book How to Travel in India.[3][4][5][6]

Personal life[]

Karl Rock was born on in Auckland, New Zealand, is married to an Indian[7] and lived in Delhi, India before being blacklisted by the Indian government.[8][9][10] Rock has New Zealand and Netherlands citizenships.[11]

BBC Panorama investigation[]

Karl Rock and his fellow YouTuber Jim Browning teamed up with a BBC Panorama team in which a large-scale technical support scamming operation was infiltrated and extensively documented by both YouTubers.[12] The two teamed up to record drone and CCTV footage of the facility in Gurugram, Haryana and even downloaded 7000 scam call recording files from the scammers computers, their video series clearly shows how these scammers targets computer-illiterate and elderly people in the United Kingdom, United States and Indian subcontinent.[13][14]

Rock was praised by Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Twitter for donating plasma at the Delhi government plasma bank during the COVID-19 pandemic.[15]

Blacklist[]

Karl Rock's visa was cancelled when he was in Dubai, and he was blacklisted from India.[16][17] He shared this information in a video on his YouTube channel.[18] He stated that there was no official reason provided by the Government of India for him being blacklisted, and that he had not received any response from the Home Ministry of India.[1] The Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Home Affairs stated that Rock was blacklisted for "multiple visa violations on his last visit".[19]
