The Karlal' (Urdu: کڑلال), also known as Karraal' or Kallar-all or Sardars of Abbottabad, are mostly a -speaking tribe of the Hazara Division, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.

Etymology and origins[]

The Karlal or Karral of Hazara state themselves to be to be the offspring's of Kallar Shah, who was the founder of the Great Hindu Shahi or Kabul Shai dynasty of Gandhara & Kabul according to Alberuni <Alberuni-Tarekh e Hind>. Kallar Shah was basically the Barahman Minister of Zabulite King,Lagartuman. Since Karlals have Native American haplogroup X it is not probable that Kallar Shah was a Brahmin.[1] But it is possible that his parents chose a south asian name for him. He overthrew his master and took the crown of Kabul and founded the Hindu Shahi Dynasty. Hindu Shahi/Kabul Shahi dynasty ruled Gandhara, kabul and Punjab from C.850 to 1026 AD, till the final victory of Mehmud Ghazniavi against the Shahi Maharaja Jaypalla and Maharaja Anandpala however, Mharaja Jaypala and Anandpala were not the descendants of Kallar Shah .They survived almost 12 attacks of Mahmud but ultimately lost the empire in his hands. After the collapse of the empire some of the Shahi prince ran to Kashmir and other hilly areas of modern day Hazara and settled there. The coins of the successors of Kallar Shah are preserved at State Bank of Pakistan Coin Gallery. They also issued Coins under the suzerainty of Muslim empire of Samanid by adding the arabic word "Adl" on the obverse of the coin-<Ref-M-Ahmad-Edu-Officer State Bank of Pakistan Coin Gallery> [2][page needed][3][full citation needed]
