The Mosque Katip Sinan Qelebi (Albanian: Xhamia e Çatip Sinanit), also known as "Katip Çelebi" (Turkish: Sinan Katip Camii),[1] is located on the Adem Jaschari Street in Prizren, Kosovo.[a] Katip means "secretary" in Turkish. It may be named after Katip Çelebi[2] but it also may be named like the Plaošnik mosque in Ohrid,[3] which was named after , short form , from the family.[4]

It was supposedly built in 1591.[5][6] It was repaired in 1893–94 based on an inscription.[7]

Notes[]

  1. ^ The political status of Kosovo is disputed. Having unilaterally declared independence from Serbia in 2008, it is formally recognised as an independent state by 97 UN member states (with another 15 recognising it at some point but then withdrawing recognition), while Serbia continues to claim it as part of its own sovereign territory.
