From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The mahabrahman Brahmins are a Hindu caste found in the Indian states of Uttar Pradesh, Panjab, Hariyana, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and Bihar. The mahabraman have higher rank than all other Brahmin communities in India. It is basically a title from many titles/surnames given to Brahmins who while knowing and practising basic rituals of a Purohit/Pandit/Panda did creation of exceptional works for society welfare or specialised skills.

Mahan{Great} + Patra{Roles Player) = Mahapatra (pronunciation: महापात्र) - meaning- A worth great role player (Brahmin) between worldly types of people by pursuing good deeds at the time world requires.

Moha{Affection) + Patra{Reason as a Person} = Mohapatra (मोहपात्र) - meaning- a person (Brahmin) who is the reason for affection of people around.

Mahapatra/Mohapatra are people belonging to Brahmins (ब्राह्मण) caste based highest in Hindu hierarchy system primarily found in old Central & East Parts of Pre-Independent India, from Awadh (United Provinces) to Gondwana (Madhya Pradesh/Central Provinces) vertically downward to horizontally all right until Bengal Province i.e. including the Indian state Odisha and the neighbouring country Bangladesh with an exception of Maulika Kayastha having same or similar named family, although I want to add separately that Kayastha are one of the most literate sub-castes of India and are particularly playing role of improving number of literates in Geographic East India {may be due to their roots lies in East India}, even in backward regions like Jharkhand, Odisha, Bihar & Purvanchal.

They like other Brahmins have origin from Lord Brahma through Saptarishi lineages and had been following all different priestly rituals and way of Hindu priests life including Nitya Karma, Marriage,Birth,Death and all other ceremonies from ages, which is changing as Kalyug Era is reaching its peak gradually as per religious texts.

Their food eating habits also depends on from which sect of Hinduism they are influenced from like there is Vaishnavism inspiring vegetarian diet but no non-veg, non-vegetarian diet is often linked with Shaktism, Sea Coast Gods and it goes same for other religious sects.

They mainly speak Hindi, Oriya, Bengali including their dialects and other languages depending upon the settlement and geography of the country.

Some people have spread false assumptions about these Brahmins, which must be cleared of originating from Varanasi and Odisha due to their significant faction of population found in those places and moreover well known in these places due to unique and special work they do or had produced there. But those false people have forgotten that like other Brahmins and many other communities they also are used to residing and migrating elsewhere.

Even Mahapatra's except of new generation after migration don't cared much [may due to degradation of Brahmins in eyes of people who dislike them for whatever reasons] that their origin is like normal Brahmins but the elders know much about their ancestry.

The word maha is used for greatest of all time, these Brahmins community is well educated and these community contain all the superior power with mokhsh (stop the reborn cycle) no other Brahmin community can match these Brahmin community.
