Kerstin Thurow

Kerstin Thurow (born October 3, 1969 in Rostock)[1] is a German engineer specializing in automation technology. She has been Professor of Automation/Life Science Automation at the Faculty of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at the University of Rostock since 1999.

Life[]

After her Abitur in 1988, Thurow studied chemistry at the University of Rostock. From 1992 to 1994, she transferred to the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich for her doctoral studies in chemistry and pharmacy. Afterwards she returned to Rostock. From 1995 to 1997, she was a research assistant at the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Rostock. From 1997 to 1999, she was employed as deputy head of the institute and managing director of the Institute for Measuring and Sensor Systems, and since 2000 she has been a member of the association's board of directors.

In 1999, Thurow habilitated in engineering sciences at the age of only 29[2] and was appointed to the first chair for laboratory automation in Germany at the University of Rostock. Since 2000 she has been director of the Institute for Automation Technology at the University of Rostock. In 2004, the professorship for automation technology/life science automation followed.
