On 13 February 2014, O'Brien ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament while playing for DIT in the Sigerson Cup, which would sideline him for the rest of the 2014 season. Currently[when?] in the final year of his Business and Management Course in DIT, O'Brien has stated in recent[when?] interviews that he hopes to pursue a career in retail, concentrating mainly on Gaelic Sport Merchandise.[1]
